Coleman is an American company that has been a world leader in the production of hiking and outdoor equipment for more than 120 years. It specializes in camping equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, travel coolers, lighting (the famous kerosene and gas lamps) and field stoves. Founded in 1900 by William Coffin Coleman in Wichita, Kansas. Initially, the company produced portable gasoline pressure lamps that revolutionized life in the American countryside before the spread of electricity. During World War II, the company created the iconic G.I. Pocket Stove for the U.S. Army, and in the 1950s it introduced the first tourist refrigerator with a plastic insert. Today, the Coleman brand is owned by the American conglomerate Newell Brands, owner of such brands as Parker, Sharpie and Rubbermaid.
